Jarlshof is an archaeological site with evidence of Bronze Age, Pictish, Norse and Medieval settlemenst. Named Jarlshof by Sir Walter Scott in his novel 'the Pirate', the Old House at Sumburgh dates from the sixteenth century. The site includes oval-shaped Bronze Age houses, Iron Age broch and wheelhouses and Viking long houses.
