Bothwell Castle, Castle Avenue, Bothwell, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, G71 8BL.
Bothwell Castle is Scotland’s largest and finest 13th century castle. It was first built in the late 1270s by William Moray who was subsequently captured by the English who took over the castle. Over the following centuries the castle changed hands between the English and the Scottish several times including being surrendered to Edward Bruce following Bannockburn.

More recently, Bothwell Castle was inherited by the Home family who passed it into state care during the 1930s. Despite many modifications made to Bothwell by both the English and the Scots as ownership of the castle changed hands, part of the original circular keep still survives.
