Golden Palace.com UK Mobile Phone Throwing Championships, Old Hamptonians Sportsground, Dean Road, Hampton, Middlesex, TW12 1AQ.
On Sunday August 12th, the general public are invited to head to the Old Hamptonians Rugby Club near Twickenham, enter into the competition, and hurl a mobile phone as far as they can (accompanying shouts of frustration optional but firmly encouraged)!
Organised by sport and adventure club 8th Day UK, last year saw both the UK male and female records shattered, with the winning throws both being unofficial World Records*. Chris Hughff threw a massive 92.30m on his first throw of the day, whilst Jan Singleton threw 53.52m to retain her status as the female champion.
Ross Williams, from the organisers 8th Day UK, said “this is a great chance for anyone and everyone to enter a competition and perhaps walk away a UK Champion. It’s designed to be a lot of fun, and it was great last year to have
representatives from 11 different countries, including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Norway, Belize and Poland.”
This year also sees online entertainment website Golden Palace involved for the first time. Richard Rowe, CEO of Golden Palace.com said “We are pleased to be associated with novel and interesting entertaining events. The Golden Palace.com UK Mobile Phone Throwing Championships fits the bill perfectly, and the fact that it will raise funds for charity has a nice ring to it!”
As ever, there is a charitable side to the event, with all competitors and spectators encouraged to bring along any old mobile phones to donate to charity.
Entry is just £5 for 3 throws, and food will be available on the day. Parking will be limited, so people are encouraged to use public transport where possible. The nearest station is Hampton.
