Great Yarmouth Potteries is a family business run by Ernie Childs and his wife. It specialises in commemorative and Limited Edition pieces, in particular tankards. Visitors to the potteries can see every aspects of the production process. A 300 year old well still supplies fresh water from an underground spring used in the mixing of clay to slip. You can see the clay slip being poured into the, hand made by the team and watch the moulds being opened before going past the kiln, spray room and mould making room. There is also a museum crammed full of memorabilia from the days when Yarmouth had a huge herring fishing fleet.The museum contains many unusual items from the old drifters and array of items reclaimed from the sea. You can also see the borks the herring were hung on in the huge chimney to smoke the fish and produce the famed kipper. Visitors can also see Ernie's nautical paintings and brouse for gifts in the shop. Children can take part in the free quiz.
