Throughout its 400-year history Aston Hall has survived cannon attacks; accommodated King Charles I on his way to the Battle of Edge Hill; and for 30 years it was the rented home of James Watt junior, son of the great engineer and a successful businessman in his own right.Visitors can see the spectacular 41-metre (136ft) long gallery, with elaborate ceilings and large-scale 17th-century tapestries,the elaborately carved staircase, complete with cannonball damage,the original ornate plasterwork ceilings, dating back to the 17th century. Outside it is possible to stroll or take a picnic in the 50 acre park.
