Bateman's was Rudyard Kipling's home between 1902 and 1936 and was bought with the proceeds of his literary successes. He house remains just as he left it and reflects his oriental tastes
Visitors can see the original illustrations for The Jungle Book, drawn by Detmold brothers and walk through the gardens which run down to the River Dudwell and a working water mill. The garage still houses Kipling's 1928 Phantom 1 Rolls-Royce.
