The Musical Theatre Factory
The Musical Theatre Factory, Mornington Road, Woodford Green, Essex, IG8 0TP.
The workshops, entitled LET’S MAKE A MUSICAL!, run for 5 days culminating in a staged performance of a completed original ‘mini’ musical on the final afternoon.
How do we do it? The participants are presented with a set of songs comprising a healthy mixture of: current chart songs, some nostalgic pop for the mums and dads, and some good solid musical theatre standards. Music rehearsals start immediately and each participant is given a learning CD of specially arranged backing tracks to take with them to do their homework. Dance rehearsals are intense and we expect nothing but full commitment, stretching pupils’ abilities to their limit.
We give a basic storyline and, through improvisation, develop characters and dialogue to piece together the songs. Eventually we put all the elements together and run through the show, giving notes, making changes and rehearsing where necessary. By the time we get to performance, we have a well honed piece tailored for cast and audience.
The result is an entertaining, hybrid musical - a unique entertainment that all the participants have helped create.
New! This year! We present a new kind of workshop experience - a WEST END one. Students will work with a professional choreographer and director and go from script to stage in just SIX days. Once you have successfully auditioned, you will rehearse and perform an abridged version of the acclaimed musical - SUMMER HOLIDAY - that will be tailored to your strengths.
We want to focus the students on the work and achieving the highest possible standards of performance, therefore the accent is on them, rather than sets and costumes. This new concept in theatre workshops will be not only great fun will be a great insight for anyone who wants to know what its like to work professionally.
