Basildon Park Grounds, Lower Basildon, Reading, Berkshire, RG8 9NR.
Basildon Park now looks as though it has been unchanged over the centuries but it was used during the war for training and to house prisoners of war in Nissen huts. When the Iliffes moved into the Park in 1952 the gardens were derelict and the ivy and brambles had grown so high that they were threatening to breach the walls. Between 1952 and 1955 the areas around the house were cleared, lawns reseeded and new borders planted. The courtyards were paved in 1964 with bricks reclaimed from the ruined kitchen glass houses and in 1967 the Pleasure Grounds were cleared and re-planted
