Standing over 900 feet above sea level Castle Hill and Victoria Tower dominate the local landscape, providing spectacular, often windswept views.

The site was developed as an iron age hill fort over 4000 years ago. It is surrounded by defensive ditches and ramparts. In the Middle Ages there was a castle on the hill, of which the well remains. Victoria Tower was built in 1899 to celebrate Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee
