The Great Central Railway runs steam trains every weekend, and on weekdays in July and August, between Loughborough Central and Leicester North. It is one of the few places in the world where scheduled full size steam trains pass in motion on double track. Enthusiasts can also see one of the classic demonstration freight or parcel trains, or take a ride in the comfort of the classic corridor trains which are steam heated in winter. First class passengers can also take a meal in the restaurant car. Those who still have the age old ambition to be a train driver can make those dreams a reality and arrange to get behind the controls for a few hours, or even a day, and enjoy the thrill of driving a giant express passenger or freight engine on Britain's only main line steam railway.
