Mid Suffolk Light Railway Museum
Mid Suffolk Light Railway Museum, Stowmarket, Suffolk, IP14 5PW.
The Mid-Suffolk Light Railway effectively went broke before it opened but still managed to struggle on for 50 years. The history of the railway is remembered in Suffolk's only railway museum, which is dedicated to keeping alive the memories of the Middy. Original Middy buildings from Wilby, Brockford, Haughley and Mendlesham, are all fully restored and viewable to visitors. Various locomotives Great Eastern coaches and wagons can also be seen. The museum houses displays of photos, artefacts and other memorabilia. Pre-booked steam locomotive driving courses are available (a limited number of spaces each year.) Join as a member and be entitled to free admission to the museum on any open day including the special steam events. Members are encouraged to volunteer for a range of tasks including the restoration of rolling stock and maintenance of buildings and track. Visit website www.mslr.org.uk for further details of opening times and membership.
