Isle of Wight Garlic Festival, Fighting Cocks Cross Roads, Hale Common, Newport, Hampshire, PO30 3AR.
Garlic may not feature on the traditional list of aphrodisiacs but the people of Newchurch swear by its alluring aroma. Not only that but they haven’t seen a vampire in years! Newchurch, centre of the region’s garlic-growing industry goes a garlic mad in August every year. And they don’t stop at the traditional garlic bread or aioli dressing. For them there is nothing that is not enhanced by a little whiff of their favorite vegetable. Bananas, for example. Ice cream, obviously. For the more conventional, there are loads of chutneys to choose from as well as the local specialty, smoked garlic.

This year's festival includes performances from Area 51, Chaz n Dave and the Brotherhood of Man, famous for their seventies’ hit, “Save all your kisses for me.” – If they’ve been anywhere near the local produce they can dream on… unless of course you believe the local legends!
