Brunel Engine House

Brunel Engine House, Railway Avenue, London, SE164LF.
The Engine House was designed by Sir Marc Brunel to contain the steam engines which drained the Thames Tunnel. The Tunnel was built by his son Sir Isambard Kingdom Brunel between 1825 and 1843 and was a masterpiece of Victorian engineering. it was the the world's first underwater tunnel. Visitors can also see the shaft which adjoins the tunnel and was one of the most innovative aspects of the project.The tunnel was opened as a pedestrian route in 1843 and is still used by the London Underground today.
