Cleveland Ironstone Mining Museum

Cleveland Ironstone Mining Museum, Deepdale, Skinningrove, Saltburn-by-the-Sea, Cleveland, TS13 4AP.
Cleveland Ironstone Mining Museum is the only museum in the UK that tells the story of ironstone mining. It offers visitors an opportunity to experience the underground world of a real ironstone mine and explore the skills, customs and life of the Cleveland miner.
The guides take visitors through the discovery of rock in the area, through the cavernous ventilation spaces and into the North Drift of the old Loftus Mine. The tour finishes with the chance to explore an underground working place and see how the stone was drilled, charged with explosives and fired.
The museum gallery contains photographs of Loftus ironstone mine, the miners and the local area during the mining era.
