Birdland is a natural setting of woodland, river and gardens, which is inhabited by
Over 500 birds; with the only group of King Penguins in England, Wales and Ireland. Flamingos, cranes, pelicans and storks can be seen on various aspects of this water habitat. Over 50 aviaries of parrots, pheasants, hornbills, ibis and many more. Tropical and Desert Houses for the more delicate species. Penguin Cafe, Picnic areas, playground and much more.
Over the next two years we have some major plans to improve the visit. Firstly we are to extend the Gift Shop and completely refit, build a new Cafe and more toilets at the far end of the Park. This will also incorporate another play area and a large walkthrough aviary.
Adjacent to the river here we will also fence and include another 2 acres of land to be developed into a nature trail and pond dipping area.
There are also plans to refurbish many of our aviaries and build some new enclosures and improve the graphic information displays. This will mean some new birds that we have planned to take on breeding loans from other collections.
We will carry on with the Bird of Prey Encounters, Reptile Encounter and expand on the presentations from the Penguins, Pelicans and Flamingos and set times to Meet a Keeper.
