Chester Zoo has some 500 different species of animals, over 1,000 birds and award-winning gardens. The zoo is heavily involved in conservation and tries to show animals in enclosures which reflect their natural habitat. Apart from the large animals, visitors can see more unusual species. There is the Twylight Zone bat cave where your eyes have to get accustomed to the darkness before you can see the bats flying around. The Spirit of the Jaguar is designed to resemble the Central American Jungle. Islands in Danger teaches visitors about the tropical rainforest.
